ThePlant Design Project Engineer is responsible to provide guidance, and to managethe Plant Design Team for activities associated with project scope, planning oftasks, and technical support for the completion of construction packagedevelopment. This position plays a lead role in the development of civil,mechanical and electrical construction packages for one or more projects.
Workswith little supervision, receiving general guidance and direction; works onmoderately complex projects and performs project engineering work from proposalto implementation; serves as a technical expert within the organization.
Thisposition typically reports to an Engineering Skills Leader or Engineering Manager;position has no direct reports, but may supervise the work of less experiencedEngineers.
Prepares optimized plant layouts with consideration for cost, safety and operability.
Organizes and leads layout and constructability reviews.
Conducts site feasibility studies.
Manages flow of information for the plant design team.
Proactively manages plant design team with respect to scope of work, schedule and cost.
Facilitates team meetings and decisions; provides technical direction to project team members.
Leads the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, suitability of materials and similar.
Is innovative in developing, selecting and implementing engineering techniques and solutions to solve difficult problems; anticipates problems and develops contingencies.
Makes technical decisions based on full awareness of viability, cost and other benefits.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of Praxair standards, guidelines, safety and operability best practices and industry standards.
Interface with operations department to understand and incorporate operations requirements into plant design.
Interfaces with customers, construction contractors and other organizations.
Primary interface between Praxair field construction manager and plant design team.
Conducts regular visits to construction sites and participates in safety inspections.
Support proposal activity by completing definition packages and completing manpower estimates.
Has extensive and broad knowledge in a field of specialization and may have knowledge of other fields.
Mentors others on work process and technical topics.
BS in Engineering with 10-20 years’ experience or work experience equivalent with 20 years’ experience.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to meet schedule deadlines
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to support project tasks and construction.
Experience interacting with construction contractors
Familiarity with ASME, ASTM, ANSI, API, NEC, NFPA
Experience utilizing Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, Schematic Wiring Diagrams and vendor supplied drawings. Salary and level will be commensurate with experience.
