The Facility Manager will be responsible for overall operations of the PraxairSuffield CT and Tewksbury MAsite. Other responsibilities:

  • Meets fixed and variable cost commitments

  • Complies with quality systems as well as governmental regulations as required.

  • Implements safety programs & maintains compliance with all Praxair Policies

  • Executes reliability programs

  • Supervises and ensures training Union HAZMAT drivers and non-union technicians.

  • Manages Collective Bargaining Agreements

  • Effective communication critical to success

The Facility Manager will be responsible for leading organization through empowerment, engagement, and managing leading metrics in alignment with business goals.

The Facilities Manager will:

  1. Supervise the operation of the unit and associated equipment to continuously supply products in quantities and qualities safely and economically, complying with all environmental regulations and daily customer requirements.

  2. Maximizes reliability in order to avoid unscheduled shutdowns resulting in interruption of supply to customers through daily monitoring, corrective action and engagement with the reliability and maintenance organizations.

  3. Effectively communicates to technicians, region director, plant engineers, support groups, and the commercial group.

  4. Keep the region director informed of deviations to operating plan and provide recommended corrective actions.

  5. Ensure unplanned downtime is communicated to the business team

  6. Ensure operational or equipment limitations and/or risk is communicated to the business team

  7. Ensure technicians are trained to continuously monitor and proactively check the operation for safety and efficiency. Ensures that management systems and SOPs are in place to ensure proper adjustment of controls in response to changes in operational conditions and strive to anticipate problems before they occur, including the following but not limited to,

  8. Near miss and Process Safety event reporting

  9. Key operating parameters are maintained within specific parameters

  10. Ensures technician duties are performed and formal rounds are completed every shift

  11. Ensures all necessary production logs and records are properly maintained. Generates reports as required.

  12. Uses professional judgment in operating the facility safely, reliably, and efficiently at all times.

  13. Is responsible for final approval of local SOPs and SMPs. Ensures that SOPs are used to start and stop major equipment and processes to prevent unnecessary process delays and to maintain operational consistency and reliability.

  14. Frequently reviews SOPs and SMPs in order to provide guidance in procedural updates, incorporates feedback.

  15. Coordinates with the Maintenance Department to ensure action is taken on corrective maintenance requests, PMs are performed as required and daily maintenance activities are communicated and coordinated with operations. Ensure the full use of the EAM work order system.

  16. Effectively communicates operating instructions and guidelines to technicians. Communicates deviations as needed.

  17. Schedules the technician's work hours.

  18. Evaluate all direct reports twice per year.

  19. Maintains contact with and builds collaborative relationships with technology providers in the areas of Operations Engineering and Reliability Center management.

  20. Serves as the primary operations interface with on-site customer. Builds and maintains a strong working relationship with customer representatives and escalates matters within Praxair as necessary to respond to customer's needs.

  21. Promotes a strong process safety culture.

  22. Communicates with logistics to maintain a balanced driver work schedule for customer demand.

  23. Communicates with logistics to efficiently plan and manage trip changes.

  24. Works with Regional Distribution Manager on driver and equipment needs / utilization.

  25. Provides driver training / coaching related to Drive Cam, Speed Gauge, DOT compliance.

  26. Manages CBA to maintain obligations & consistency as it relates to driver coaching / performance.


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent process operations management experience

  • 5 years Operations experience

  • 2 years Demonstrated Leadership experience with people management
