Business Development Manager


Scope: Works with little supervision, receiving general guidance anddirection. Position will have responsibility for growing industrial gases andequipment business through value-based technical and consultative sales indesignated geography with primarily focus on food industry along with othersegments as assigned.

REPORTING: Thisposition reports to a Director of Business Development and will have no directreports.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Accountable for new customer acquisition and growth at existingcustomers in designated territory. Tasks include but not limited toprospecting, lead generation and qualification, market and customer strategy,business case development and analysis, proposal development and technologypricing analysis and recommendations, sales technical support, projectsimplementation and start up oversight. Efforts will result in profitablesales growth consistent with Praxair objectives and specific objectives for theindustrial customers and regional business.

Consistently identify, research and analyze likely markets,regional and local economic/project activity, competition, evolving industryneeds, product application and business opportunities. Initiate,structure and implement market initiatives, growth campaigns, and associatedcustomer communications.

Monitor competitive activity in the territory and ensure thatappropriate response strategies are formulated.

Understand financial, user/customer, internal operations,competitive advantage and Praxair technology portfolio value anddifferentiators.

Establish and grow relationships with potential customers,industry consultants and vendors.

Know and cooperate with internal business partners including butnot limited to sales, R&D, regional and national BD, applications equipmentand customer service personnel. Utilize and leverage all availablePraxair resources to achieve goals. Participate with other businessdevelopment personnel, key account and sales personnel in development of salesstrategies.



  • BS Degree (preferably technical)

  • 5 years overall business experience with 2 years at least of experience on the Food industry

  • 2 years Sales/Marketing experience and technical sales

  • 2 years various process industry experience

  • 50% Travel Required


  • Familiarity with industrial gases applications in multiple process industries

  • Technical/engineering savvy and value building skills

  • Well developed commercial/business ski lls
