We are currently seeking a Safety, Health and Environmental Director. This position will be based inPhoenix, AZThe candidate will report to the West Region Vice President and will have direct safety, health, and environmental responsibility for all employees and facilities in the West Region of USIG. This role supports Praxair locations in the following locations: Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona.
JOB PURPOSE :
The successful applicant will be responsible for monitoring, training, implementing and ensuring compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) regulatory requirements of OSHA Federal and State General and Construction Industry regulations, EPA, local and state safety regulations, and Praxair internal standards.
This role requires collaboration with all levels of the organization to identify and correct potential safety and health hazards and environmental situations, and provides compliance assurance from a strategic and tactical standpoint to the Business Unit. The SH&E Director ensures the implementation of safe and environmentally-compliant standard work practices. Assures compliance with organizational and government environmental, health and safety standards. Monitors organizational environmental, safety and health performance, and provides employee safety, health and environmental training and compliance tools.
The SH&E Director will work with members in all levels of the Business Unit to support the achievement of 0/0/0 performance goals in safety, health and environmental areas of responsibility. This position provides support and guidance to multiple facilities in the following areas: fleet safety, personnel safety, process safety, and regulatory compliance. This individual will provide leadership, guidance and assistance in the prevention/control of accidents and incidents.
Position Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Define and communicate the SH&E strategy to ensure strong safety and compliance performance across the West Region of USIG
Direct 6 SH&E Field Specialists to provide active support to site locations throughout the region
Interface with various business groups to ensure SH&E related issues are identified and corrected
Develop SH&E Annual Plan and communicate to upper management; Direct & drive the implementation of safety programs and initiatives
Ensures proper case management and reporting for all injuries; Provide 24-hour notification to corporate for all significant events
Facilitate accident investigations including Root Cause Analyses for injuries/illnesses/key incidents and process safety events. Ensure all investigation team members are properly trained based on internal and regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with Praxair policies and standards, as well as requirements outlined by various regulatory organizations such as OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, DOT, MSHA, NFPA, IEEE, and ISO
Interface with applicable regulatory agencies to resolve all compliance related issues and permitting requirements
Provide interpretation on internal safety procedures and provide, as required, signature approval for various work tasks and projects (Confined space reclassifications, pressure test plans, etc.)
Knowledge and understanding of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Chemical Facility Anti-terrorism standards (CFATS) related to chemical vulnerability information (CVI) and facility chemical top screens
Responsible for professional development of SH&E team
BS Degree in a related field of study is preferred; or 5 years relevant SH&E experience in the refining and chemical industry
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification preferred, but not required
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification preferred, but not required
Past experience dealing and negotiating directly with regulatory agencies preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in all areas of safety, health, and environmental
Strong communication and organization skills
Strong presentation skills
Ability to work with all levels of the organization, be customer focused, set positive example and drive change
Travel 50-75% with overnight stays required
This position performs field and job related safety, health and environmental inspections/audits that requires traversing uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, and moderate lifting up to 45 pounds
