JOB PURPOSE:

Plan, coordinate and implement global public and media relations, crisis, and other related Praxair business communications plans to further define and enhance the Praxair brand and achieve business objectives.

SCOPE:

This position works under minimal supervision with guidance in only the most complex situations and is responsible for understanding the company and industry so that he/she proactively manages communications and addresses issues to help achieve business goals.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the VP, Corporate Communications in charge of public relations and business communications. Position has no direct reports, but must have the ability to motivate and engage others through influence and thought leadership without having direct management responsibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute strategic media / PR plans to position the company as a global industry leader and support business goals and objectives.

  • Work closely with Investor Relations and the global businesses to write, coordinate and distribute all press releases and manage media as necessary to ensure they have an impact.

  • Coordinate and manage quarterly earnings process which includes attending Disclosure Committee meetings, finalizing and distributing earnings releases and coordinating the related employee forums.

  • Coordinate global crisis communications process, ensuring process is well communicated and understood by all stakeholders. Monitor crisis situations and work proactively on crisis communications for Praxair Corporate.

  • Work with Investor Relations and Finance to manage the Company's Annual Report process including the development of the Chairman's letter, Annual Report design and printing and other "non-10K content."

  • Ensure that PR / IR content and information for external communications are consistent with key messaging and company branding.

  • Work with other business and function leaders as requested to develop and execute global or regional business communications strategies.

  • Support media and communication strategies for public policy and government affairs issues.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of region / business PR or other communications plans, and recommend changes and/or improvements as appropriate.

  • Develop and conduct media training, as needed.

  • Lead special projects as assigned.

  • Serve as the Company's media spokesperson, as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree required.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in media and PR and/or corporate communications required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Please note that an on-site writing test will be required for candidates selected for interviews.

  • Ability to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications plan that meets business objectives

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, set priorities, and achieve goals

  • Hands-on familiarity with current PR tools and processes, wire services, media and reporters

  • Leadership abilities - can be relied on to exercise excellent judgment in the absence of direct supervision

  • Exceptional composure, executive presence, and interpersonal skills

  • Results-oriented and accustomed to working within limited budgets/resources
