Plant Safety Manager
Praxair SurfaceTechnologies, Inc. has an opportunity for a Safety Manager at its Manufacturingplant in Biddeford, Maine.
The Safety Manager is accountable for planning, organizing, coordinating andmaintaining the plant's safety services activities to ensure maximum compliancewith Corporate, Federal, State and local laws and regulations. This positionrepresents a very high level of responsibility and individual contribution.Most notably, the incumbent will be responsible for:
Monitoring the safety and health performance of the site and recommend priorities and actions for improvement
Outlining specific safety programs and coordinating, reviewing and updating plans such as the plant's Emergency Plan, Hazardous Material Contingency Plan, Hazardous Waste Plan, LEI's, Emission Plan, etc., ensuring objectives are met.
Coordinating various safety training programs, maintaining training records within databases, and periodically reporting on compliance status.
Planning and presenting monthly safety meetings in accordance with training requirements
Performing internal audits of S&ES activities to evaluate plant's compliance
Developing safety procedures and maintaining controlled documentation of JSA's and MSDS's
Ensuring contractor's compliance with company safety regulations, coordinating medical programs and providing effective case management for the plant.
Oversee and operate waste water treatment system.
Assist in shipping hazardous waste materials.
Provide environmental reports and ensures required licensing is current.
Works with and understands combustible dust issues.
Requirements andCompetencies in which incumbent must possess:
5-10 years of experience in an operations/manufacturing environment
Ability to compile, format and present safety subject matter in front of large groups on a frequent basis
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, must be able to effectively communicate and up, down and across the organization
Must be able to make tough decisions in a timely manner, sometimes without complete information and under tight deadlines and pressure
Strong leadership skills; Has a vision and can champion new ideas or position
Maintains a thorough knowledge of new industry safety practices
Provides training and mentoring to staff
Must be proficient in computer skills including Word, Excel & PowerPoint, able to navigate custom databases and on-line document management software
Ability to work on teams, manage multiple tasks and interact with senior management
Preferred candidate will have knowledge / experience in industrial safety, health, and/or environmental science
Preferred candidate will have knowledge / experience in compliance
Preferred candidate will have knowledge / experience in material science
5-10% travel required(domestic and international)
